How to reduce the risk of moth damage

Getting moth holes in a wool garment has nothing to do with cleanliness. Moths and carpet beetles can fly into both houses and apartments and lay eggs among clothes and textiles. When the larvae hatch, they seek out wool to feed on the natural material in order to grow. Thinner wool garments and items that have been folded for a long time can be especially vulnerable.

The best way to protect your wool garments is to store them as tightly as possible. Ideally, place them in a sealed box or bag when not in use for an extended period. You can also add cedarwood among the clothes for extra protection.

If you have moth holes
What characterizes a moth hole is that the fibers have been eaten away and the holes usually have a round shape. If you suspect an infestation, it is important to act immediately. Place the garment in the freezer and then wash it. Also clean thoroughly where the clothes have been stored to eliminate any eggs or larvae.

If you want to be sure to avoid moth damage, you can store your wool sweater in a plastic box with a lid.
