Ivanhoe is a family business with deep roots in Gällstad. Our journey began here in 1946, and we are still here today. Over the years, we have built upon a heritage of knowledge, craftsmanship, and a love for knitting with wool.

Martin Göthager

The company was founded by Martin Göthager. With experience, drive, and big visions, he mortgaged his house, bought knitting machines, and installed them in the attic. His wife Ragnhild contributed inspiration and a sense of design, and together they laid the foundation for what was then called Gällstads Wool. It didn’t take long before the company became an established name in Swedish classic fashion.

The second generation, Ulf, Göran, and Lars-Erik

When the next generation took over, it was Martin’s three sons, Lars-Erik, Ulf, and Göran, who continued the business. They quickly realized that the company needed to reach a wider audience to grow. Göran played a particularly important role in this effort. With great dedication, strong faith in the future, and a bag full of knitted garments, he traveled around, met store owners, and showed what Ivanhoe stood for.

During the 1980s, interest in skiing and outdoor life grew, and the company took a new direction towards sportswear. At the same time, the ambition to reach an international market increased. In this development, the name Ivanhoe was born – a name that was considered to work better outside Sweden and marked a new step in the company’s history.

Third generation, Karin, Anders, and Anna

In the 2010s, the third generation took over: Anna, Anders, and Karin. With respect for the company’s heritage and a forward-looking vision, they have continued to develop Ivanhoe. Wool remains at the heart of everything we do, and our work is characterized by care, precision, and a desire to make the most of the material’s potential.

Today, Ivanhoe is still a family business with strong roots in Gällstad. We create garments with the goal that they will be worn for a long time, appreciated over time, and feel right year after year.

Wool is at the heart of everything we do. It is a natural, functional, and timeless material. Our ambition is for more people to discover the qualities of wool and choose garments based on quality, sustainability, and thoughtful material choices.
